She was born as Penny Sue Summers on May 7, 1958 in Urbana, Champaign, Illinois to Frances Elizabeth Neal and William Dale Summers. As an adult she legally changed her name to Sasha Sokolnikov in the interest of her writing career.

As a military child, Sasha went to twenty (?) different schools before earning her degree (?) at the University of Texas San Antonio. She was an avid writer and reader who loved her furry children.

She was married to James Cornell from Jun 1978 - Oct 1992.
She was married to Michael Akers from May 1998 until her passing in Dec 2020.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Elizabeth Neal, her father, William Dale Summers and all four of her grandparents.

She was survived by her sister, Tammy Kay Summers, her husband of twenty-two years, Michael Akers; and many friends and neighbors.

PLEASE NOTE:
The published obituary (shown below) contains several errors. I do not know if this was intentional on the part of her husband OR if she had given him incorrect information to begin with in the interest of hiding her true family history.
