Also known as Agnes Cain Brown, she was a vocalist and vaudeville actress. According to her death certificate, she rests in this cemetery, Garden of Gethsemane section. Agnes was married to Harry P. Girard, lyricist/actor, also buried here. The couple performed in the U.S. and Canada during the early 1900s. They eventually retired in Houston, where their son, Louis, attended Rice University and wrote lyrics for “The Rice Fight Song.” Louis and classmate, Dr. Bill Ross, later composed “The Rice Hymn” with music by Harry Girard. Rice University currently houses Harry’s papers and notes as “Harry P. Girard Music Manuscripts Collection, 1906-1910.”
