It appears he may have been listed twice in the 1900 census: once as Jacob W. Toland (Foland) from Franklin, Marion Co., IN and once as Walter Foland from Monroe, Madison Co., IN. This has led to a lot of confusion in this line of the family. The second one is the one I am choosing since his parentage is listed correctly. There is no parentage listed for the first one. In the 1910 census, it would be the second choice listed as being married to Estelle (Estel) with daughter Mary and all living in Monroe, Madison Co., IN. However, he is just 29 years old in the 1910 census changing his birth year to abt 1881 for that census and his mother's place of birth is now listed as Ohio instead of Indiana. He dies just before the 1920 census. His death certificate lists the correct parentage matching the 2nd 1900 census choice. Therefore, the 2nd 1900 census entry is the correct Jacob Walter Foland for this tree. (Further clouding this line is the fact that the birth certificates for his children have him listed with different ages - of course - but that would make him born in at least 3 different years spanning 1876 - 1882.)

This Walter is NOT the same as Walter L. Foland (#99093470 - different parentage, different cemetery, and different middle name) nor the same as Walter Calvin Foland (#45503843 - different parentage, different cemetery, and different middle name).

This Jacob Walter Foland was married to Iva Estella Hilbert Foland Barnes (#79495578) and they are the parents of the following children:
Mary Louise Foland Shively #125724665
Jessie Leona Foland Fetty #31047272
Elmer Eugene Foland #2861709
Margaret Velena Foland Day Hartley #52826037
Laura Anna Foland Taylor Wehner #58499698

One final piece of information: His birthdate and his brother John's are just 9 days apart. They both have multiple pieces of primary source documents listing the same year of birth for both. However, there is no mention they are twins and back in those days the survival rate of twins born separately was zero.
