Ryan James Jones, age 39, passed away on November 23, 2020. He was born on December 28, 1980 in Concord, Massachusetts, a few miles from Walden Pond. Ryan was an “Army Brat,” and, thus, he lived in many places during his young life. He lived in Panama, where, as a child, he learned to be an “expert” at climbing coconut trees. He became known as the “Coconut Boy.” He was a beautiful boy.

He lived in Jacksonville, Alabama where he rode his first bicycle and developed a love for fishing and baseball. Living not far from Atlanta, he and his dad went to a Braves game and he was hooked. He became a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan. To the chagrin of his father, a Washington Redskins fan, Ryan, for reasons unknown, became a devoted Dallas Cowboy fan. One of his greatest highlights was when he made a trip to Dallas and toured the Cowboys stadium and took in a game. After many years, he still has his Tom Landry fedora.

Ryan graduated from Hylton High School in Northern Virginia and Marshall University.

He loved the beach and water. He once lived on the Eastern Shore, working on an oyster boat. He truly enjoyed visiting Nags Head, NC where he would fish and go crabbing off the local docks.

If you met Ryan you instantly liked him. He had an appreciation for irony, a great sense of humor, a beautiful smile, beautiful blue eyes and a contagious laugh. He was loyal to his friends.

Ryan’s life, tragically, ended way too early. He battled drug addiction for several years, but lost his battle to a drug overdose, while living in Winchester, Va. Addiction is a horrible disease. It will take everything you own and then take your life. It is considered a family disease because everyone who loves the person with the disease is affected. Ryan did not want to leave us. He had plans. He had dreams. And he loved life, and more than that he loved his son Peyton. And Peyton adored Ryan. The sadness of Ryan’s passing will linger for many years to come. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. We will keep him in our hearts.

Ryan is survived by his parents, Craig and Deborah Jones; his son, Peyton Jones; his sister, Megan and brother-in-law William Anderson, niece, Brianna Anderson and nephews, Collin, Tyler and Roman Anderson; Grandmother, Rose Marie Jones; his girlfriend, Rachael Waller; and dozens of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A Catholic Mass will be given for Ryan on December 9, 2020, 11:00am at Saint Stephen, Martyr Catholic Church in Chesapeake, Va. Following the service, Ryan will be buried at Forrest Lawn Cemetery
