Irene H. McMillion, 72, died Monday, May 31, 1999 at her residence in the Canton area of Baltimore, Maryland, following an extended illness.

Mrs. McMillion was born October 25th, 1926 on Lancaster Street in Fells Point, the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Marinus Bak and Helen (of "Helen's Café") Kowalski. A member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William McMillion Jr., a retired employee of Anchor Motor Freight.

Surviving family included her son and their beloved pedigreed Shih-Tzu, "Buster," both of the home; one daughter; also her sister Dolores and brother-in-law Andrew, all of Baltimore. In addition she was survived by family members in North Carolina -- two married daughters including Mrs. Elaine C. Ward and her husband of Winnabow; a brother, Norman Currie and his wife of Boiling Spring Lakes; five nieces (two in North Carolina and three in Maryland) and a nephew of Columbia, Maryland.

Mrs. McMillion was an avid movie buff with a love of theater, acting, local community, historical preservation and nostalgic memorabilia, as well as dogs. While residing in southeastern North Carolina during the mid-late 1970's, in keeping with those interests she took part in the earlier restorations of the historic Dr. J. Arthur Dosher house and the Frying Pan lightship, which was later docked near her home city of Baltimore en route to its current berth in New York. As a homemaker she was skilled at various forms of crafts and needlework, including knitting, crochet and embroidery. She also liked doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, duckpin bowling (quite popular in her home city), and playing keyboard piano. Some of her favorite famous personalities in entertainment were U.S. and Olympic champion figure skater Christopher Bowman (a.k.a. "Bowman the Showman"), actors Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Judy Garland and world famous concert pianist Liberace.

Her family is requesting that any memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Cancer Institute.
