Sidney Degrate, Jr., age 81 of Snyder, Texas, died Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Snyder Oaks Care Center. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Westover Cemetery in Westover, Texas, with Reverend Shannon Harrison, pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Sidney was born on October 8, 1939 in Marlin, Texas to the late Sidney Degrate, Sr. and Pearlie Mae (Hines) Degrate. He married Gracie Collins on July 2, 1960 in Wichita Falls, Texas and they moved to Snyder in 1962 from Seymour. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2012. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Joseph Degrate, Booker T. Degrate and Rossie D. Degrate. Sidney was a meter man for oil companies until his retirement. He also loved raising cows and loved plowing on his John Deere tractor. He never met a stranger and was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. Sidney was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was a man of God and loved working in the church.
Sidney is survived by two sons, Bobby Degrate of Snyder, Texas and Tony Degrate of Round Rock, Texas; two sisters, Katie Harrell and Jean Carter, both of Meridian, Texas; two brothers, Jimmy Degrate of Lincoln, Nebraska and Simpson Degrate of Killeen, Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
