Charles “Marty” Mooney, 58, of Rockport, IL passed away Monday morning (4-24-17) at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL.

Marty was born July 24, 1958 in Louisiana, MO a son of Sharon Leroy and Shirley Maxine Foster Mooney.

He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1976, where he excelled in basketball, being named as an All-State Honorable Mention player in 1975.

Marty was a life- long Pike County grain and livestock farmer and horticulturist and was a long time employee of Stark Brothers Nursery in Louisiana, MO.

He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, all types of animals, watching baseball games and discussions at the “round table” at the Atlas Café.

Marty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pittsfield and loved studying religion and the Bible.

He will be remembered as a great brother and uncle, always putting others first.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (4-27-17) at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pittsfield conducted by Rev. Mark Schulte. Burial will follow at Miller Cemetery near Atlas. A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Barry Community Care Center or to Unity Point Hospice.
