My great-grandfather, Robert Franklin, was born and raised in North Carolina. He was a mill worker all his life, a supervisor at the time of his death in South Gastonia, although he lived in Salisbury. He and wife Dovie Short were hit by a car as they exited their vehicle to visit family. Both later died of injuries at the nearest hospital in Gastonia, NC. Funeral services were held in both Gastonia and Salisbury for them. The Gardners had 10 children, my grandfather, Vaughn, was the eldest.
