KEPNER Irwin George "Kep" Died unexpectedly in his residence on Saturday, January 26, 2002 in San Mateo, California. He was 90 years old. Kep was born on February 14, 1911 in St. Louis, MO to George Jacob Kepner and Edith May (Scott) Kepner.

After graduating from Maplewood High School, Kep entered the University of Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia, MO in 1930. There he met the love of his life, Martha Frances Maupin. They married on September 23, 1933 and moved to St. Louis, MO when he was hired by Union Carbide Company, Linde Air Division. Kep was a loyal and sucessful salesman who's career moved them and their seven children to Grand Rapids, Michigan and Wheaton, Ill. His final promotion in 1958 to District Manager of Sales, San Francisco, brought the family to Burlingame, California where they settled for 39 years. Kep and Martha both had a love for and appreciation of antiques. They were avid collectors and opened their own antique shop, Martha's Village Store, in downtown Burlingame after he retired in 1969. Kep's special interest in old phones was most appropriate as he had quite a gift for gab! He was an adventurer and loved to travel but they never forgot their roots and would spend many summers on the farm in Armstrong, MO where Martha's parents lived. Kep was also a nature and wildlife conservationist and especially loved to share this passion with his grandchildren. However, his greatest love and admiration was for his family. He and Martha were devoted to each other for 62 1/2 years and their home was always filled with friends and family activities. Kep lovingly cared for Martha during her illness before she passed away in 1996. Kep lived the last six years of his life in his own residence, surrounded by the love of his family, long-time friends and especially his caregiver, Margarita Damian.

Kep is preceded in death by his wife, Martha, and his eldest daughter Carol Lee Cox who died in 1997.

His six surviving children are Edith Ann Fields, Robert Lawrence Kepner, Georgiana Stimpert, John Scott Kepner, Deborah Jo Johannesen and James Allen Kepner. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a teacher of life's lessons and will be greatly missed by all.

A Memorial Service was held February 3, 2002 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Nature Conservancy or The Burlingame United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
