Alma May Caton Auld, of Gordon, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at Shenandoah Senior Living Center, Shenandoah.

She was born Aug. 25, 1921, in Frackville, to the late Vertal and Myrtle Caton.

Alma left Frackville at the age of 18 to work for GE, Philadelphia, assembling bomb casings during World War II, where she met her husband. After his tour in the Navy, they moved to Norwood, where Alma worked in the cafeteria at Seneca Avenue Elementary School for 20 years before the family moved to Gordon.

For many years, Alma drove handicapped children to school until she finally retired in her 80s. She was a member of Church of the Nazarene, Lavelle, for over 30 years and served faithfully as Sunday school secretary and in other capacities.

Alma's greatest joy was having the whole family in for picnics in the screen-house, Fourth of July fireworks and any and all holidays. She loved having the grandchildren spend weeks during the summer riding go-carts and swimming in the pool. Alma and her niece, Pam would take the children to Knoebels where she enjoyed watching them ride and have great fun and eat funnel cakes. In 1998, a new little granddaughter was born for her to start her spoiling all over again. She had the energy of two people and never seemed to get tired.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Auld; sons, Wayne "Dusty" Auld and Glenn D. Auld, both of Gordon; brothers, Raymond Caton, of San Diego, Calif., Leonard Caton, of Frackville, Howard Caton, of Allentown, and Wayne Caton, of Frackville, (MIA during the Korean War); sister, Joan Bracey, of Fountain Springs.

Those left to cherish her memory are son, William L. Auld, of Loretto, Minn.; daughter, Carolyn Baxley and husband, Chuck Baxley, of Hickory, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Sue Auld, of Gordon; sister-in-law, Kay Caton, of Allentown; granddaughter, Michelle Baxley, of Marion, N.C.; grandson, Jason Baxley, of Hickory, N.C.; grandson, Dustin Auld, of Loretto, Minn.; granddaughter, Olivia Auld, of Gordon; nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you and appreciation to our cousin, Pam Yeager, for being so kind to our mother during her time at Shenandoah Manor. Pam was there to visit regularly since we couldn't always be there. She kept her company, decorated her room and took her good things to eat. Pam was a real blessing to our mom and to us.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, in Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua. Officiating will be the Rev. Donald Allison, senior pastor of Church of the Nazarene, Lavelle. Visit www.Fritzfuneralhome.com. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of arrangements.
