However, Richard and his wife Joane Fowle couldn't have been buried at the Portsmouth Friends Cemetery. According to historian Richard Bayles, in his "History of Newport Cty., R.I." (pg 682), they didn't own the land until 1692. The Meeting house was built in 1700.
