He was born Dec. 9, 1918, in Oshkosh, a son of John and Marie Goerlitz Hartmann. Samuel married Edna Beck on July 1, 1939, in Highland Park, Ill. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 1991.
Mr. Hartmann was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Samuel was a World War II veteran. He participated in the invasion of Normandy Beach. After his military service he was employed at Block Iron Supply from 1947 until his retirement in 1981.
Samuel was an avid golfer and enjoyed many hours in his woodworking shop.
Survivors include four children, Harry (Lorraine) Hartmann, Thomas Hartmann and Penelope (Karl) Schwertfeger, all of Oshkosh, and Dorothy (Donald) Wirkes of Neenah; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and beloved friends, Walter and Ellie Blount. Mr. Hartmann was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and a daughter.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Seefeld Family of Funeral Chapels-Eagle Street, with the Rev. Clyde Friedman officiating. Inurnment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. A memorial has been established.
