Duane was born July 19, 1953, in Eldora, Iowa the son of Everett Wayne and Betty Jane (Gersbach) Smith. On May 16, 1992, he was united in marriage to Laura Marie Thrasher in Colo. Duane worked 12 years for the Story County Jail as a cook and enjoyed collecting cars. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.
Duane is survived by his wife, Laura of Colo; his children: Amanda Coughenour of Colo, Robin George of Colo and Kevin Smith of Colo; his grandchildren: McKenzie Coughenour, Damion George, Kadin George, Baylee George, Sofie Kaiser and David Smith; one great-grandson, Spencer Coughenour; and a brother, Jeff (Deb) Smith of Ames.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Bill Riley and Terry Smith.
A visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Saturday, November 14, at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (1418 Fawcett Pkwy) in Nevada. Face coverings will be required.
