Leroy Fuhrmann was born August 27, 1925, to Felix and Olga Henke Fuhrmann.

He was baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church on November 15, 1925, by Pastor K. Konzack. He was confirmed at Bethany by Pastor Theo Haag on March 17, 1940.

He attended country schools near Fredericksburg and then Fredericksburg High School.

He enlisted in the army in December 1943 and went to training at Camp Swift. His unit was trained quickly and called into service. He was a member of the 260th Engineer Combat Battalion and served as a radio operator and civil engineer in the European Theater. Later he became a part of the 11th Engineer Combat Battalion ("Jungle Cats").

He attended and graduated from Texas Lutheran College where he met Margaret Wolf. They were married on October 1, 1950, in Cuero, Texas.

His first job was in Victoria with the State Department of Public Welfare. His starting salary was $210 a month. After three years, he began working for the Social Security Administration in Corpus Christi. As he was promoted, the family moved to Fort Worth and then to Temple. He retired in 1981 as Assistant Manager of the Waco office. He earned a 30 year pin as an employee of the Federal Government.

While in Temple, Leroy became an active member of First Lutheran Church, helped start a Tuesday morning men's coffee group that still exists today, served for 8 years on the Board of Directors of the Clifton Sunset Home, and was a member of the Temple Lions Club.

After retirement from SSA, he worked for various other companies: Temple Mall as a security guard, Lutheran Social Services of Texas, Tem-Bel Nursery, and Hewitt Jackson Tax Services.

He loved being outdoors and spent many hours working in his yard and garden. His other hobbies were hunting, fishing, woodworking, and leather crafting.
