After a brave battle with colon cancer, Mary Ann (Cvancara) Bokn was taken to her home in heaven on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013.

Mary Ann was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Ross, N.D., to Louis and Cora (Hanson) Cvancara. On July 1, 1950, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Andrew Bokn, in a small church in Stanley, N.D. After a brief stay in Texas where Andy was stationed in the Army, they made their first home in rural White Earth, N.D. In 1960 Mary Ann and Andy moved to Brighton, where they raised their four daughters.

As a young girl, Mary Ann worked on a farm near her home where she helped with chores and housework. After moving to Brighton, she worked as a waitress and then at the Keebler Cookie Factory, where she worked for 10 years before returning home to be a devoted homemaker to her husband and family. She liked to travel to visit family and friends with her husband, Andy, and spent several winters in Arizona, where they enjoyed numerous activities and made many new friends. Mary Ann was a wonderful cook and baker (especially lefse and potato dumplings!), enjoyed family gatherings, and watching her favorite Rockies baseball player, Troy Tulowitzki, play baseball.

Mary Ann is survived by her four daughters, Carol (Roberts), Diane (Mathis), Sharon Bokn and Teri Bokn; nine grandchildren, Corey (Lori) Mathis, Shane Bokn, Jason (Tracey) Roberts, Christine Mathis, Mollie (Dave) (VanOtterloo) Bailey, Alisa (RJ) (Roberts) Kobza, Brent (Terra) VanOtterloo, Karen VanOtterloo, and Shauna Bokn; 12 great-grandchildren, Devin, Tyler, Brandon, Austyn, Caitlyn, Corbin, Andrew, Miranda, Ashlee, Kendall, Paxton, Cameron and one on the way; her brothers, Eugene (Sharon) Cvancara, of Brighton, and Larry (Edith) Cvancara, of Rapid City, S.D.; brothers-in-law, Polly (Carolyn) Bokn, of Eugene, Ore., and Maurice Bokn, of Brighton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Andy, in March 2012; her parents, Louis and Cora; two brothers and a sister.

She was a wonderful mother, a loving grandma and "gg." Her heart was strong and full of love and faith in God. Her daughters, along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends would like to share how truly blessed we are to have had her in our lives. Her faith in God guided her through many peaks and valleys and is the foundation on which she and her husband, Andy, built their family. She will be missed beyond words by everyone and anyone who knew her.

A memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church 1400 Skeel St., Brighton, where Mary Ann and her family have been members since 1960.

Memorial contributions may be made to Agape Healthcare, 6041 S. Syracuse Way, Suite 220 Greenwood Village, CO 80111.

Tabor-Rice Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
