Marco Santagata was an Italian writer, literary critic and academic, winner of the Campiello Prize in 2003 with Il maestro dei santi pallidi and of the Stresa Prize for Narrative with L'amore per se in 2006. He was one of the leading experts in classical Italian opera, of Dante, Petrarch and Petrarchism. He was a friend of singer-songwriter Vasco Rossi. He passed away from Covid-19 on November 9, 2020 at Pisa Hospital, Tuscany.
