Lewis Albert Downs, 87, died Monday at an Athens hospital.


The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home with burial in Pleasant Point Cemetery.


Mr. Downs was a retired farmer and a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.


He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Corethia Downs.


Survivors include his wife, Alice Downs; six sons, Gene Downs of San Antonio, Alton Downs of Decatur, Stanley "Doc" Downs, Jimmy Downs, Robin Downs and Danny Ray Downs, all of Athens; two daughters, Carolyn Beaver of Hartselle and Ann Pennington of Rockwood, TN; four brothers, W. C. "Dub" Downs of Athens, George Downs of Huntsville, Talmadge Downs of Somerville and Devaughn Downs of Madison; three sisters, Velaree Marks, Robbie Evans and Nella Russell, all of Athens; 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
