Joe M. Anderson, 93, left his earthly home to return to his heavenly home to join his sweetheart of 71 years on September 23, 2007 due to Causes Incident to Aging.

Born September 20, 1914 in Union, Utah to Joseph Anderson and Sarah Ellen Johnson, the youngest of 8 children.

He graduated from Jordan High School in 1933.

He married Jessie Marie Stone on July 6, 1935. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 3, 1956.

He worked in the CCCs in 1935 and started working for Kennecott Copper in 1935. He retired in 1976 as the mine car repair foreman.

He played high school basketball, and he played for Kennecott's Gemmell Club. They participated in the 1942 Intermountain AAU Basketball Championship. He was the Telegram's All Star Center for the Salt Lake Interstake Championship M Men team.

He loved to go fishing with his son, grandson, and his brothers and brothers-in-law.

His home, yard, and family were his pride and joy. There was nothing he couldn't repair or build in his garage or wood working shop.

He served a Stake Mission, as Stake Sunday School Superintendent, High Priest Group Leader, and at age 80 as a counselor in the bishopric of the Union 2nd Ward.

He belonged to the Union Lions Club and served as president twice. He and Jessie traveled with the Roamin Utes.

Preceded in death by his wife; his father and mother; his brothers, Jim, Guy, and Andrew; and his sisters, Estella Dahlberg, Fawn Price, and Ivell Fugate.

He is survived by his children, Helen Berrett (Enniss) and Bob Anderson (Connie); six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two expectant great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Genevieve Stringham.

As a family, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Hospice Specialists and especially to Pita and Latu Funga for their loving and devoted care. You were a gift from God, and we will be eternally grateful.

God knew you were suffering,
That the hills were hard to climb,
So he gently closed your eyelids,
And whispered peace be thine.
In tears we watched you sinking,
We watched you fade away.
It broke our hearts to see you go,
But you did not go alone,
For a part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union 2nd Ward Chapel, 540 East 7200 South. Family and Friends may visit on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St., and one hour prior to the Services at the Church.
Interment at Mountain View Memorial Estates.
