GOLDEN WEDDING AT BUCHANAN, KY
Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Comption celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their residence at Buchanan, Ky, on October 27th. Those of the family who were present were: L.B. Compton, Portsmouth, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Compton of Lock No. 2, Kavanaugh; Mr. and Mrs. S.G. Compton, Racine, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Compton and two children, Ashland; Mr. and Mrs. John Compton and four children, Ashland; Dr. and Mrs. J.A. Pritchard and two sons, of Buchanan, and Mr. and Mrs. Burns Finney and two children of Burhaugh. Five of the six sons and the one daughter were present. One son, J.R. Compton of Eastwood, Ohio was unable to be present. The day was greatly enjoyed. The table which extended the entire length of the long dining room was loaded with all the good things usually found on such occasions. In the center of the table, was a lovely bouquet of cut flowers and the dining room was decorated with autumn flowers. Seated at one end of the table was the blushing "bride and groom," surrounded by the five sons and daughter. Many neighbors were also present to enjoy the day. The afternoon was spent in picture making and relating childhood experiences. Mr. and Mrs. Compton have spent their entire married life here and are highly respected. Mrs. Compton was a daughter of David Kinner, one of the pioneers of this area.

COMPTON, J.R
Sorrow enshrouded our community when death claimed J.R. Compton on Friday morning June 13. His spirit winged its way to Heaven just as the sun was peeping over the hills. He had been sick several months, and though all was done that his loved ones could do, yet his days were numbered, and he fell asleep to sleep the sleep that knows no waking. Mr. Compton was born in Tazewell, Co., VA ([actually Lawrence Co., KY] April 21, 1844. When a small boy, his parents moved to Blaine Creek and purchased the farm now owned by the widow of Squire John Compton. At this place, he was married to Martha Kinner and went to housekeeping on a part of the Kinner estate at Buchanan where their entire married life of 54 years was spent.

No death in this community has caused deeper sorrow than "Uncle Jake's," as he was familiarly called. He was always happy and cheerful and cast a ray of sunshine wherever he went. He was a veteran of the Civil War and the last member of his company to answer his call. His captain, J.F. Hatten, survives alone. In June 1919, he was converted under the ministry of Rev. J.H. Dawson and in 1921 was baptized and became a member of Prichard Memorial M.E. Church, South. He was a faithful attendant as long as he was able and came a few times when he would become ill and have to leave the services. The funeral and burial was at Buchanan Chapel Sunday morning, conducted by his pastor, Rev. O.P. Smith, whose words were such a comfort to the bereaved ones, as he had been with him during his illness so much, and Mr. Compton had given such ? testimony of his salvation and being ready to go. He is survived by his widow, 6 sons who bore the body to the last resting place, and one daughter, Mrs. Dr. Allen Prichard.
