William J. Hurd, 63, died at his home, 1549 Fifth avenue SE, at 7 a.m. Sunday after a lingering illness. Born in Rock Island, Ill., April 12, 1876, he had resided in Cedar Rapids for 30 years. He was a retired accountant of the North Western railroad. In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by a sister, Miss Jennie Hurd, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be conducted in the Immaculate Conception church at 9 a.m. Tuesday by Msgr. John Molloy. The body will be taken to Rock Island for burial in the Calvary cemetery. The rosary will be recited by Msgr. Molloy and the St. Isabella circle at 8 p.m. Monday at the residence, where the body was taken from the Monahan funeral home.
He previously operated a cleaning and dyeing business in Davenport.
