William Anthony Gill was born the son of Anthony & Alma (Speckner) Gill on 6 Aug 1928 in Grinnell, IA. The family lived in the Barrett Community 7 miles north of Kellogg, IA where he attended rural school. He attended Laurel High School for three years & graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1946. During his High School years he excelled in drama & vocal music, He attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, IA. Following his education he worked at Kellogg Savings Bank.
Bill was united in marriage to Carmen Ebert 24 Aug 1950 in Marshalltown, IA. Their marriage was blessed with 2 sons, Steven & Anthony (Tony). Bill honorably served in the United States Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict from 6 Nov 1950 until 5 Nov 1952. Bill farmed from the time he returned home from the Army until his retirement. He was active in farming & community organizations such as Farm Bureau & Cooperatives. Following his retirement, he stayed busy gardening, attending NASCAR races, fishing, hunting, attending morning coffee time, Saturday evening card parties, fulfilling the role of mayor of Rushville, hauling cattle for neighboring farmers, paticapating in parades & enjoying activities with his children & grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carmen Gill of Kellogg; 2 sons, Steven (Sherry) Gill of Chariton, IA & Anthony Gill of Kellogg; grandchildren; Tara Gill, Brian (Crystal) Gill, Justin Gill & Jesse Gill; step-grandchildren, Thomas Kauzlarich, Jonathan (Ashley) Kauzlarich & David Kauzlarich; 7 great grandchildren; sisters in-law, Carol Vander Ploeg & Jane Ebert; brothers-in-law, Vernon Jones & Donald Swihart. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Jane Jones & Dorothy Swihart; brother & sisters-in-law, Joyce (Russell) Parsons, Charles (Crystal) Lehfeld, Mark Vander Ploeg & Gael (Bud) Ebert.
