Albertha Blackwell, 76, great-grandmother, of East Orange died on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Born in Glen Ridge, the daughter of the late Rev. Carol and Virginia Williams, Mrs. Blackwell grew up in Orange and moved to East Orange 51 years ago. She received an associate's degree from Essex County College, a bachelor's degree from Upsala College and a master's degree from Seton Hall University. She was a teacher in the Newark public schools for over 20 years before retiring. Mrs. Blackwell was the devoted wife of the late James Blackwell and the beloved mother of Virginia Jeffries, Linda Lee, Debra Blackwell, Wanda Blackwell, Donna Wooten, Nathan Blackwell and the late James, Gregory, David, Michael and Stella Blackwell. She is also survived by four sisters, Louise Green, Ullaphene Cummings, Christine Holmes and Virginia Williams; one brother, Raven Williams; 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
