Obituary, Our beloved mother and grandmother has returned into the waiting arms of her loving Heavenly Father. After years of battling with her health, the isolation and stress from the covid-19 restrictions caused her health to rapidly decline until she passed away peacefully.

Ruth was the eldest child born to Charles F. Schell and Delta M. (Gardner) Schell in Salt Lake City, Utah where she grew up.

She graduated from West High School and later completed Salt Lake Community College with a degree in accounting.

She married Gerald (Jerry) A. Horton in 1952 and had 4 children (3 boys & 1 girl) before they divorced in 1971. Later in 1974 she married Joe D. Samora and had 1 more son - Widowed in November 1985.

Over the years she worked many different jobs (waitress, medical assistant, bookkeeper / accountant, community council secretary, etc), but the employment she enjoyed the most was her 20+ years she worked for The Woodbury Corporation as an accountant until she retired at age 82 in 2016.

Ruth loved her family and her religion. She also loved music, especially piano, classical and religious varieties. She played the piano and organ in her many callings over the years in the LDS church. She loved animals and was particularly fond of dogs and cats, which could always coax a smile out of her.

Ruth was always kind, charitable and faithful, holding the parable of the "Widows Mite" as a guide for her to follow.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister (Donna), a brother (C. Edward), both husbands (Jerry and Joe) and a son (still born). She is survived by her sister (Lola) and family, daughter Elizabeth Nielsen (Michael) and family, son Gerald Horton Jr. (Alanea) and family, son William Horton and family, son Steven Samora and numerous great and great, great grandchildren.

Her strength, understanding and charitable spirit will be sorely missed, but we take solace in knowing she is no longer in pain and we will see her again someday.

Our family wishes to extend a special Thank You to the staff at The Wentworth at East Millcreek, The Care Advocates, and others who cared for our Momma Ruth.

A viewing will be limited to Family and close friends due to Covid restrictions at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, prior to the graveside from 1-2 pm.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 7th at 3:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 South Highland Drive, SLC, Utah)
