Joshua Hendrickson, 86, passed away 25 Feb 1863 just north of Dolan, Indiana. He was born in Virginia 25 Sep 1776 to Ezekiel and Mimy Hendrickson and was a veteran of the War of 1812, serving in the Fifth Regiment of Wilkes County, North Carolina. And, along with his brother, Ezekiel, Jr., Joshua was one of the original pioneers of Monroe County, Indiana. Joshua was married three times.
Joshua first married Nancy Ann Wilson 28 Jul 1799 in Person County, North Carolina and the couple had at least nine children; Elizabeth, Sarah, William, Margaret, Ezekiel, Elijah, Lucinda, Thomas and Elisha. Then, in a stroke of bad fortune, Nancy died while trying to give birth to another child.
Joshua needed help to raise such a large family and he found it with Hannah Munsey. They were married 22 Jun 1822 in Lee County, Virginia. This marriage produced four more children; John, Naomi, James and Mary. However, in yet another unfortunate event, the final childbirth proved to be too much for Hannah. It appears that she died bringing Mary into the world.
Finally, Joshua married Sarah Jane Helton 21 Jan 1833 in Monroe County, Indiana and the household grew even bigger with eight more children; Amanda, Alexandria, Reuben, Nancy, Andrew, Rebecca, Isabelle and Sarah Lewellen. However, we hasten to add that Sarah Lewellen might have been adopted. Yet, If our count is correct, Joshua had 22 children.
