June 1, 1945 - April 20, 2008

Richard N. McClanahan, 62, of Watervliet passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Lakeland Hospital in St Joseph following a brief illness.

A service celebrating Richard's life will be held 11:00 am Thursday, April 24 at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma where visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Cremation will take place following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Richard's name be directed to the activities department at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St Joseph.

Richard was born June 1, 1945 in Caruthersville, Missouri to the late Nelson and Lorine (Pounders) McClanahan who survives. After graduating from Benton Harbor High School in 1964, Richard went to work at Industrial Rubber in St Joseph for a short time. He then became a self employed businessman who owned and operated four Shell service stations from Benton Harbor to Kalamazoo until the early 1990's. He also operated a wrecker and snowplowing service that held many contracts throughout the Kalamazoo area.

Richard was an accomplished golfer and an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan. Always quick with a smile and a joke, he touched the hearts of all of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In addition to his mother, survivors include a brother Larry (Mary Jo) McClanahan of Watervliet; children David, Michelle, Richard Jr. McClanahan, Denise Luna, and seven grandchildren all of Phoenix, Arz. Also surviving are nieces, Tina (Tim) Hauch, and Susie (Scott) Burkhardt; great nieces and nephews, Christopher, Allie (his bingo buddie), and Eric Hauch; Derrick and Sydney Burkhardt, all of Bainbridge Township and also his extended family at Lakeland Continuing Care Center in St Joseph
