Services Held At New Hope for 3 Tornado Victims
Funeral services for Mrs. Andy Collins and Mr. and Mrs. John Walker, three victims of the storm which struck this area Monday afternoon, were held at the New Hope Methodist Church Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock with the Rev. N. D. Gueny of Schlater, assisted by the Rev. J. H. Holder of Winona, officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Collins and Mr. and Mrs. Walker were residents of the Avalon community which is north of Greenwood. Mrs. Collins had gone over to the home of her niece, Mrs. Walker, for a visit and while there the storm hit and blew the Walker home away. Two other visitors in the home at the time were also killed. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were killed instantly but Mrs. Collins was injured and taken to a hospital in Greenwood where she died Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Collins was born in Montgomery County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Bennett, Sr. She is survived by her husband, Andy Collins; one daughter, Mrs. Inez Taylor of Vaiden; four sisters, Mrs. Clara Crow and Mrs. Julia Adams of Winona, Mrs. Mary Collins of Avalon and Mrs. Susie Charveneau of Georgetown; and two brothers, G. W. Bennett of Winona and Marshall Bennett, Veterans' Hospital, Shreveport, Louisiana.
Mr. and Mrs. Walker leave two children, Mildren and K .C. Walker of Avalon. Also surviving are two brothers of Mr. Walker, J. A. Walker of Earle, Arkansas, and J. H. Walker of Holly Bluff, Mississippi, and the parents of Mrs. Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Bennett of Schlater.
