US Congressman. From 1777 to 1779, he was commissioner of Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives in 1783, 1785, 1793, 1794 and 1796, and served in the State Senate, 1797 to 1804. In 1805, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninth Congress and served until his death.
