Joyce was born on January 7, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil LaMarr Harpst.
She graduated from Ensley High School in 1951.
In 1959, she was crowned Mrs. Alabama. Joyce enjoyed fashion, antiques, cooking, camping, diving, and dancing.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Jean Harpst Payne of Alexander City, Alabama; son Joseph Richard Douglas, Jr., of Hoover, Alabama; grandchildren Laura Douglas and Judson Douglas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and relations.
She is preceded in death by her father Cecil LaMarr Harpst Sr. (1912-1963), mother Irene Candler Harpst (1917-1976), and brother Cecil LaMarr Harpst Jr.(1940-2008).
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery on Friday, October 30th, 2020.
