Born in Newberry County, he was a life underwriter for Liberty Life Insurance Co. for 28 years and sales manager for Maxwell Lindsay Furniture Co. for nine years. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 79 for 10 years and a life member of the Silverstreet Ruritan Club. He was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church, a former Sunday school superintendent, a former member of church council and a life member of the Lutheran Men. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mable Cromley Nichols’ a daughter, Mrs. Kay Mueller of Atlanta; sons, H. Edwin Nichols of Grand Rapids MI, and Dr. J. Wade Nichols of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Mrs. Sudie Werts and Mrs. Robert (Louise) Moore of Prosperity, Mrs. Laura Bowers and Mrs. Homer (Nancy) Long of Newberry and Mrs. Donald (Ernestine) Schryer of Washington DC; a brother, Lewis Nichols of Mount Pleasant; a half sister, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Wike of Winston GA; and a half brother, Osborne Nichols of Riverdale GA. Burial in Silverstreet Lutheran Church cemetery. Whitaker Funeral Home.
