Jacob was first married (May 14, 1872) to Catharine Weppler, with whom he had four children:
- Heinrich (1873-1955)
- Wilhelm (1875-1890)
- Herman (1877-1909)
- John (1879-1879)

Catharine died on February 21, 1879, the day after giving birth to a son, John. The infant died on the 22nd, having survived two days.

Jacob and his second wife, Emma Brueckner, were married on May 10, 1882, in Wilmot Township, Ontario. Their children were:
- Maria Katherina (1883-1976)
- Charles (1884-1959)
- Ernest Edward (1888-1974)
- Dorothea Margretha (1891-1975)
- Wilhelm (1899-?)

Jacob lived almost his entire life in Wilmot Township, where he was a farmer. He died in Waterloo, Ontario.
