He was born in Aurora, Illinois on January 9, 1942 to the late Ervin and Inez (Abbott) Carpenter. Don was a veteran of the Army, serving in Greenland. He looked like Santa Claus and enjoyed playing him at the local mall, events and family gatherings for many years. He enjoyed painting ceramics and playing bingo. When his health allowed he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters: Jodi and Tammy Carpenter; grandchildren: James Carpenter and Rena Willis; great grandchildren: Melladeyn, Almyra, Armella, Renaesmae; Hunter and Adelynn; sister and brothers: Kay Finley, William (Peggy) Carpenter, Ervin (Kim) Carpenter, David Deters, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara, second wife, Ann, brothers, Robert and Tom Deters, Bruce Carpenter and special friend, Curtis Amble.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Cataract Cemetery.
