Ronnie Wade Yates, 68, was called home to be with our Lord on October 16, 2020. He was born January 24, 1952 to James Owen and Stella Ruth Law Yates the sixth of nine children.

Ronnie graduated from Smiley High School where he played football and ran track.  He attended Texas Lutheran University.  Even while still in high school he worked with special needs children.  He moved to Houston to begin his career in building and remodeling working for his uncle and With his cousin Murry who would become his partner for the next many years.

He returned to Smiley every Friday night to watch his younger brothers Shannon, Stanley, and Randy play football-always bringing bottled water and other supplies for the team. He loved to hunt-Especially deer in the fall, weekends started early, always at the deer lease. The freezer was always full of deer meat and he was always sharing.

Ronnie loved kids. His own and everyone else’s. He was always ready to entertain and help in any way he could. Organizing backyard Halloween carnivals and neighborhood Easter egg hunts.

In 1983 he began what was to become a lifelong adventure. Jennifer, Becky and Kim started playing softball at the YMCA.  He coached. In 1984 the girls moved to Little League and the rest as they say is history. He started the first Challenger program for special needs children in Channelview. He coached, umpired, and directed. He was privileged to umpire both girls and boys Little League World Series. He still served on the district board. He was a strong supporter of the Channelview FFA. Always generous and encouraging, and had no problem convincing his friends and family to join him.

Ronnie loved traditional country music and musicians. As with anything else he did, he supported it with his ideas, his time, and his money.  Weekends and many evenings were spent traveling all over Texas just to listen to live traditional country music.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Elzner Roy Yates, Delton Owen Yates, Doyle Shannon Yates, Stanley Sherwood Yates and sisters Joy Ruth Laster and Margaret Marie Altum.

He is survived by his wife Patsy, his daughters Jennifer Heichelheim(Scotty), Rebecca Ann Bedair(Brett) and Kimberly Ren'ee Yates and their mother Jackie Yates.
