Gene A. Long, of North Weymouth, died November 13, 2017 at the age of 84. Gene grew up in Quincy, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1956. He worked as a purchasing agent for General Dynamics before going into business for himself as a kitchen and bath designer and contractor. His family describes Geno as loving, kind, helpful and adventurous. He enjoyed music, skiing, everything outdoors, dancing and playing the drums and banjo. He also was a backyard mechanic who could fix anything. Most of all, Gene was a dedicated family man who cherished his role as a grandfather and attended endless games and events over the years. He was the beloved husband of Marie T. "Sweetie" Long; loving father of Michael Long and wife Jean of Hanover, Jean Walsh and husband Ronald of Abington, Vicki Keating of Weymouth, Sharon Harrison and husband Stephen, of Weymouth; brother of Noreen Ruth Long Smith of Lakeland, FL and the late James W. Long and Richard J. Long. Also lovingly survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 p.m. in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, at 40 Sea Street, North Weymouth. Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth. Donations in memory of Gene may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Assoc., East Concord Street, Boston, MA 02118.
