Richard Owen McManus passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2005. He was 86 years old.

Richard was born June 6, 1919 in Boston, Massachusetts to Wellington and Helen McManus. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University, graduating first in his class. He earned a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His career field was systems engineering.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and received the Asian-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Bronze Star for the New Guinea Campaign, the World War II Victory Medal and five Overseas Bars.

On July 1, 1951, he married the love of his life, Eleanor S. Keenan at St. Anthony's Church in Allston, MA. They spent their early years together in Watertown, MA and, later, raised their three children in Needham, MA. They enjoyed many summers at their beach cottage in Marshfield.

Known as ''Mr. Mac'' to family and friends, Richard enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He always encouraged his children to be independent and adventuresome. He was a capable man who could fix anything. His interests also included politics and history.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor, of Issaquah; three children, Richard W. McManus and his wife, Karen, of Issaquah, Carolyn McManus of Seattle and Douglas McManus and his wife Susan of Silverspring, MD; and five grandchildren, Kelly, Richard A., Michael, Heather and Emilia.

A graveside service was held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2005 at Lower Hillside Cemetery.
