She graduated from Muddy Creek High School in Haines, Oregon in 1940.
Virginia worked 45 years as a hair stylist in Portland, Oregon; Tacoma, Washington; Long Beach, California. She started her styling career at Meier and Frank, Portland, Oregon; when she and Larry moved to Washington (Larry was drafted and served at Ft. Lewis, Washington). She worked at Fischer's in downtown Tacoma. In California, she owned her own salon.Foremost, Virginia enjoyed being with friends and family. While living in California, she loved to golf and had made her "hole in one"! She was a great cook and homemaker. Later years, she became an avid reader, enjoyed playing Bingo and cards. Always loved to dance.
Virginia had a large family - 8 brothers, 1 sister - all had passed away before her (also, 6 nephews, 1 niece had passed before her). She was preceded in death by husband - Larry Hess in 1976.
She is survived by sons - Ron (Michelle) Hess of Long Beach, California, Gary (Toni) Hess, of Annapolis, Maryland; daughter - Sandy (Boyd) Taylor of Port Orchard, Washington; 5 grandchildren: Carie Cassar (John), Kevin Hess (Lori), Liz Reale (Brian), Tracy Nicholson (Greg), Kelly Hess (Ernie); 8 great-grandchildren: Kelly Hess, Wyatt Hess, Shelby Hess, Olivia Cassar, Ella Cassar, Curtis Reale, Donovan Reale, Tyler Nicholson.
Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, July 28, 2006 at St. Francis Desales Cathedral in Baker City, Oregon followed by graveside services at Haines Cemetery in Haines, Oregon.
