"Brother "Willie" as he was called in later years, a farmer, and his wife removed from the Dickinson ancestral home to her home, "Edgewood" (near Belmont) after the death of her father, Reuben Coleman. They remained there until their death. They are interred on the Edgewood property in a family cemetery.
William was a Confederate veteran enlisted in Company E 9th Virginia Cavalry. He, was a messenger during the Civil War, was wounded and sent to Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond.
William was a deacon at Mt. Herman Baptist Church near Belmont, Spotsylvania County, Va. and an active member until his death.
