EDWARD M. LONG JR., 95 years of age of Mavisdale, VA, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2020 in Johnson City, TN. Born June 9, 1925, in Wilder, VA, he was the youngest son of the late Mabel (Sullivan) Long and Edward M. Long Sr. He was of the Christian faith and the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-1946. He was a charter member of the Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department where he served as chief for many years. Edward was a retired coal miner, where he worked in and around the mines for 42-years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and he was president of the Local Union # 6843 Construction Workers for several years. He also served as International Safety Inspector for the United Mine Workers of America for several years. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 7360 in Grundy, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona (Crider) Long; 1-Brother: Garland Long; 1-Sister: Emma Vance; and 2-Grandsons.

Those left to cherish his memory include his 6-Children: 5-Sons: Terry L. (Sue) Long of Paducah, KY, Allen (Sheila) Long of Manassas, VA, Larry (Patty) Long of Wardell, VA, David (Denise) Long of Abingdon, VA, and Randy (Jeanie) Long of Mavisdale, VA; 1-Daughter: Kathy (Donald) Looney of Richlands, VA.

Also, survived by 10-Grandchildren, 11-Great-Grandchildren and a host of family friends.

Special Thanks to caregivers, Janice Edwards and Kenny Hale, and a very special friend, Mike Fletcher. Also, a special thanks to Joe and Misty Mullins and all of his friends at the Derby Café.

Friends may call at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, VA, Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 12:00 P.M. (Noon) till 1:00 P.M.

Funeral Services for EDWARD M. LONG JR. will be conducted Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Charlie Cooper officiating with entombment to follow.

Active Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends.
