Sam Borum Bess was born on August 29, 1909 in Antioch, Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of Arthur Noble Bess (1880–1930) and Manella Elizabeth "Nella" (Taylor) Bess (1889–1961).
He was married on January 1, 1942 to Etta "Estelle" Roberts and was a US Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bordeaux Methodist Church, the American Legion, Lions Club, Bordeaux Civic Club and he was a Mason.
Living at 1801 River Drive in Bordeaux , Sam was a former constable and later operated a Bordeaux service station and a bonding company on Public Square. He was 53 years old, married and had bacterial endocarditis when he died of a pulmonary edema at Nashville's VA Hospital on December 30, 1962.
Survivors included his widow Estelle, daughters Miss Shirley Elizabeth Bess and Carolyn Jett Bess, sister Mrs Mary Frances King and brothers Lovell Bess and Jesse Bess, all of Nashville.
Funeral Services were held on December 31st at Bordeaux Methodist Church, and burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Nashville.
