Guy Hunter Aikens was the son of Asa and Sarah Hunter Aikens.
His father, Asa, was born 13 Jan 1788 in Barnard, VT and died 12 July 1863 in Hackensack, NJ. He entered West Point in 1807 and was commissioned Captain in the 31st Regiment USA on April 30 1813. Asa graduated from Middlebury Colllege in 1808 and served in the Vermont Legislature 1818-1820. The family moved to Westport in 1843. Mrs. Aiken's brother, William Guy Hunter, and her sister, Mary Hunter Cutting both were living in Westport at that time.
