Richard D. "Rick" "Lippy" Liptake, 51, of Streator died Dec. 22, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Solon, Baker and Telford Funeral Home in Streator. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Streator Fire Department. The Rev. Mark Upchurch of Central Church of Christ will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

He was a son of Donald and Mary M. (Decker) Liptak. He married Leann Morton on Nov. 19, 1977 at Central Church of Christ in Streator. She survives in Streator.

Also surviving are his two daughters: Cory (David) Kreitzer of Normal and Mandy Liptak of Lincoln; his precious granddaughter: Madelyn Kreitzer; his father: Donald J. Liptak of Streator; brothers: Gary Liptak of Lancaster, TX and Jim (Ralene) Liptak of Crandall, TX; a brother-in-law: Rob (Tina) Keen of Streator; a sister-in-law: Irene Cripe of Streator; and a father- and mother-in-law: Robert and Shirlye Keen of Streator. There are also nieces and nephews surviving.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Mary M. Liptak.

Born and raised in Streator, he attended St. Stephen's grade school and graduated from Streator High School, Class of 1973. He later attended the Illinois Fire Service Institute. Rick served as a captain on the Streator Fire Department where he worked for more than 18 years. He retired in September.

He was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Lazy Acres Sportsman's Club and formerly a member of the Streator Eagles Club. Rick lived life to its fullest with his family and friends and always carried a sense of humor and memorable character. He treasured years of playing and coaching softball, baseball and golf with the church and city leagues. Rick also enjoyed winning Texas Hold 'Em tournaments and dreaming of being on the World Poker Tour. His stories, jokes, good-natured personality, generosity and outgoing spirit will be remembered and loved by many.

Pallbearers will be: Rick Cripe, Andy Minkus, Randy Hart, Jeff Clift, Todd Galyen, Art Johnson, Dave Sweeden and Bob Williamson. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Streator Fire Department.

Memorials may be directed to Northwestern University Division of Organ Transplantation (Galter 17-200, 675 N. St. Clair, Chicago, IL 60611) out of gratitude for the work toward his successful liver transplant.
