husband first of Virginia L. Kline, married October 1938 she died on May 1, 1987, he married his second wife, Betty L. Kauffman, February 25, 1989 and he was the son of Annie M. (Hovis) and Frank B. McCleaf. He lived his early life in the Rouzerville area. He served with the United States Navy during World War II, serving aboard a destroyer as a machinist mate. He later served two enlistments with the Maryland National Guard at Camp Ritchie, MD. In his early life he drove a mail truck on a star route. He was later employed at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, for over 42 years, starting as an Assembler and Supervisor in the Vise Department, then as a Sales and Service Technician and a Finished Machine Inspector, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Rouzerville United Methodist Church and he attended services at Wayne Heights Brethren Church. He was also a member of Acacia Lodge #586 F.&A.M., Waynesboro, a 32nd Degree Mason from Harrisburg Consistory, South Penn Scottish Rite Club, Greencastle, Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg, Waynesboro Shrine Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest #95, Hagerstown, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #731, Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post #695, Eagles Club, Inc, The Order of the Owls Nest #1073, and the Waynesboro Fish and Game, all of Waynesboro; South Mountain Fish and Game, South Mountain, PA, Blue Ridge Sportsman Association, The Landis-McCleaf Detachment of the Marine Corps League, National AARP and South Chapter #2977 AARP. He was a former member of the Rouzerville Lions Club. He organized the Rouzerville Boy Scout Troop #44 and served as Scoutmaster until his work forced him to give it up. In addition to his second wife, he is survived by three sons, Lanny R. McCleaf, Douglas G. McCleaf, and Steven L. McCleaf, all of Waynesboro; one daughter, Barbara A. Earley of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step daughters, Judy Monn, Lois McClanahan, and Nina Mowen, all of Waynesboro; one sister, Mary Ann Potter of Greencastle, PA; two brothers, William McCleaf of Blue Ridge Summit, and Thomas McCleaf of Smithsburg, MD; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and 1st wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles McCleaf, Robert McCleaf, Paul McCleaf, and John McCleaf.
