ASHTABULA — Ivan Alderman, age 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at the Blossom Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on March 18, 1921, he was a son of Vern and Iva (Potter) Alderman, and had been an Ashtabula resident most of his life. Ivan was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during W.W.II. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the United States Postal Service, and previously for the Railroad. Ivan enjoyed fishing, rock polishing, making jewelry, camping and traveling. He is survived by his four children, Verne (Dianne) Campbell of Kinsman, Margie (Raymond) Weese of Williamsfield, David (Carol) Fogleboch of Adrian, Mich., and Donna Foster of Clearwater, Fla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two step-children, George (Diane) Rood of Youngstown and Sandra Guernsey of Burbank, Ohio; seven step-grandchildren, George Jr. (Angelia), Jeffery (Jennifer), Douglas, James Rood, Jennifer (Randy) Newell, Julie (Dennis)Leonard, and Gail (Kevin) Keaney; 29 step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Hutter of Mantua, Ohio. Ivan was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Hawes) Alderman; two brothers, Olney and Harry Alderman; and his parents. A visitation will be held 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the ZABACK-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio. A Service will follow at noon, with his step-son, George Rood, Preaching Elder of the New Hope Christian Church in Youngstown, Ohio, officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens with full military honors.
