Attorney, Civil War Union Soldier. Born in Newbury, Ohio, he attended Oberlin College and was a student there when the Civil War began. He enlisted for three years service in November, 1861 with the 69th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served as the Color Sergeant for the several months. He was then assigned to the quartermaster department of his regiment. He returned to Cincinnati after he was mustered out and attended the Cincinnati Law School, of which he graduated in 1867. He was admitted to the bar and became employed at the law office of Judge Hoadly until 1874. He died at his residence in Hartwell in 1914 when he was 74 years old.
