Mr. John David Gilreath, age 74 of Wilkesboro was called to his eternal rest on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Rev. Casey Walker and Rev. Burrel Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 PM prior to the services. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Gilreath was born August 11, 1946 in Wilkes County to Green Gilreath and Grace Dean Waugh Gilreath. Growing up John would spend his time farming and learning how to fix cars, a trade he carried on into his adult life. Later he would meet and marry his high school sweetheart, Lucy McCurdy Gilreath and from that union they had three daughters. John started his career at Tyson Foods as a line supervisor, and later became a live haul truck driver where he retired and was recognized for 53 years as a “safe driver”
John devoted 13 years caring for his wife until her passing in 2015. John’s passion was farming, gardening, trading, and helping people in the community. His favorite pastime was the Monday Cattle Sale. He loved buying anything from dishes to junk cars. We would say growing up, “if daddy don’t have it they don’t make it.”
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Yvonne McCurdy Gilreath, daughter Sandra Parks, brother Herbert Gilreath, and sister Patsy Moore.
He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Stacey Barnes of Lenoir, Nancy Gilreath of Wilkesboro, son-in-law Leonard Parks of Statesville; brothers Reggie Gilreath and Eric Gilreath both of Wilkesboro; sisters Peggy Gilreath of Wilkesboro and Grace Williams of Los Angeles; five grandchildren, Tyson Wolfe, Asia Wolfe, Rashad Bristol, Jalen Smith, and Seth Parks; seven great granddaughters, Mackenzie Watts, Jocelyn Horton, Sophia Wolfe, Malaysia Watts, Melody Wolfe, Sadie Smith, Serenity Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and family.
