Arna worked in Norway for Arnt O Klanderud (brother of Manuel) as domestic help as well as working for Arnt in a little store he owned which was connected to the residence.

LAST RITES FOR OBERT WOMAN
OBERT-- Funeral services were held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church here Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Manuel Klanderud, 70, longtime reisident of this community who died last Thursday night at the home of her son, Henry Klanderud. She had been ill for considerable time.
Rev. C. M. Grindland officiated at the last rites and burial was in the Obert cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Hartington. Pallbearers were Clifton Stolpe, Vernon Stolpe, Paul Pederson, Burdette Anfinson, John Vogle and Arnold Johnson.
Mrs Klanderud is survived by her husband, two sons, Henry and Otto Klanderud of Obert, three daughters, Mrs Kenneth Bottolfsen, Mrs Martin Bottolfsen and Mrs George Miller, all of Hartington, 20 grandchildren and two brothers, Ments Haug of Sioux City (IA) and Olof Haug of Skottrud Norway.

A native of Eidskog, Norway, Arna Otilie Martiniusdatter Haug was born there on Ljøner, her fathers farm, October 22, 1883. She died on her 70th birthday. She came to America in the early 1900's(1904). She was married to Manuel Klanderud at Sioux Falls, S. D., December 28, 1904. After living a short time in Sioux City they moved to Cedar County in 1907. They lived on a farm on Brookey Bottom until 1948 when they retired and moved to Obert.
Mrs. Klanderud was active in Our Saviour's Lutheran church and held a life membership in the Women's Missionary Federation.
Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Mr and Mrs. Ments Haug and Helen and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Haugen of Sioux City, and Wendell and Lewis Klanderud of Omaha.

Note: when Arna came from Norway, she traveled with her Brother Ments Haug and a cousin Minda Sæther, coming thru Ellis Island NY. Arna arrived on the Ship: Montebello abt Dec 2, 1904.
She had her first taste of a bananna on Ellis Island and discovered she liked it.

Arna suffered with diabetes for many years giving herself insulin shots daily. Her mother also had diabetes and died from the disease.
