Final rites for Mrs. Petrea Schmidt were held Tuesday afternoon, December 15, from the Nain Lutheran Church. Rev. Ronald Jespersen and Rev. Hakon Jorgensen officiated. Mrs. Clyde Simons and Mr. Don Grau were soloists, accompanied by Mrs. Gale Hansen at the organ. Attendants were Marvin Frandsen, Bert Phillips, Farley Bellows, Gerner Iversen, Vernon Haahr, and Earl Williams. Burial was in the Newell cemetery. Mrs. Earl Williams, Mrs. Lorence Minden and Mrs. Bert Phillips had charge of the flowers. Petrea Jensen was born to Terkild and Kjirstine Jensen March 30, 1876 in South Jutland, Denmark She came to America in 1907 and was married to Nis A. Schmidt on March 26 of the same year in the Nain Lutheran church at Newell, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Newell. Six children were born to them: Maria (Mrs. Viggo Nielsen, Askov, Minn., Peter, Edith Mrs. Harold Copland, Oakland, Calf., Velma Mrs. Roy Liechti, Newell, la., Otillda Mrs. A. K Brooke, San Leandro, Calif and Rebecca Buzard, San Leandro, Calif. Preceding her in death were her husband on December 16, 1918 and her onlv son on October 18, 1925. In 1941 she moved to California and lived with her daughters On September 2, 1950 she suffered a broken hip from which she never recovered, and on the evening of December 9, 1963 she slept quietly away. She leaves to mourn her five daughters; four grandchildren, Sharon Buzard, and Harold, Joyce and Larry Nielsen; one brother in California; and three sisters in Denmark.
