Bliss Charles W, 81, one of Orange Twp's pioneers, died Friday at his home at Brimfield, aged 81 years, 3 months and 19 days. He was born in Brimfield, Mass., Jan. 31, 1846, the son of William and Fanny M. Bliss. He was 14 years of age when his parents located in Noble County, and he had been a resident here since that time. His father was also born at Brimfield, Mass., and there grew to manhood. The father first took up the occupation of a farmer but in 1837 moved to Chagrin Falls, O., and was employed by his brother Aaron, who was operating a woolen mill. He traveled extensively throughout Indiana and became impressed with the resources of the state. He was married in Chagrin Falls, O., and later returned to Brimfield, Mass. In 1857 he moved his family to LaGrange County and for two years operated a woolen mill at Rome City. Charles W. Bliss was 11 years of age at that time. The family then moved to Noble County and located in Orange Twp on the plat of land that is the present site of Brimfield and which the father named in honor of the town of that name in Mass. Charles W. grew to manhood and in early life took up the occupation of a farmer which he followed many years. He was married in Rome City Nov. 29, 1871 to H. Cornelia Clock, who died several years ago. They had one daughter, Fannie, who has maintained the home with the father. He affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church. Politically he was a Republican. In his late years he served as a precinct committeeman in Orange Twp. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral was at the home Monday.
