Edna Clark Sturdevant was born Jan 16,1898, a twin, at Newell to Clara Candace Clark and Edward De Loss Clark, the fourth of a family of five girls and three boys. On Dec 25, 1916 Edna was united in marriage to Arthur Cole of Varina. To this union was born Irene (Mrs. Eldo Heathman, Alta), Bette (Mrs. Leo Schuler, Lake Creek, Alta), Damon Cole, (Charles City), Wayne Cole, (Storm Lake), and Robert E. Cole (Omaha, Neb). She was a devoted mother and grandmother to fourteen grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Lavona Sheets, Cedar Rapids, and brother-in-law, Rodney Rench, Sac City. A second marriage of fourteen years to George Sturdevant, Ruthven, ended In his death on Oct. 7, 1955. After his death, Edna, moved to Storm Lake where she resided the remainder of her life. She was employed at a laundromat and as an attendant at the City Public Restroom for the next 16 years until ill health forced her to retire at 71 years of age. She was an attentive member of the Lakeside Presbyterian church until falling health forced her move to Buena Vista Care Center several years ago where she remained until the week before her passing. The week previous to her admittance to the B. V hospital Edna received a most deserved honor of being selected "Mother of the Year" by residents of B. V. Care Center On Mother's Day she was surrounded by her children and several grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by many whose lives she touched. Edna passed away on May 21. 1980 at the Buena Vista County hospital at the age of 82 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers, and one great grandchild. Her first husband, Arthur Cole, passed away in 1971. Services were held at the Lakeside Presbyterian church at 1:30 p. m. Saturday, May 24. Officiating was the Rev. Duane Queen. Music was provided by soloist, Sharon Daniels, with organist. Damon Cole. Pall bearers were Dale Wheat, Tom Schuler, Orval Wilbur, Roy Clough, Jack Anderson, and Robert Kinney Interment was In the Newell cemetery under the direction of the Hughes Nelson Funeral Home.
