Obituary for Mrs. Cheryl Jean Woodfork Griffin

Obituary
Cheryl Jean Woodfork Griffin

“When I am gone, remember I’m with Jesus; then do not mourn because I’ve passed away. Life Holds so many griefs and disappointments, and will you cry because I did not stay? Tis only for a spell we must be parted; not many years, and when my Savior tells me you are coming, I’ll go with Him and welcome you to Heaven. Grieve not because the eyes that looked upon you shall never see your face on earth again; rejoice, because they look upon the Savior who gives His life to ransom sinful men. Weep not because I walk no longer with you. Remember, I am walking streets of gold. Weep for yourselves that while you must tarry before the blessed Lord you may behold.”
During the evening hours on July 22, 2020, the Lord saw fit to call our beloved sister, Cheryl Jean Woodfork Griffin home to be with him. Although, she will be deeply missed, and our hearts are now grieving, we know that God never makes a mistake and we accept his will. Cheryl, affectionately known as “Cookie” was born on October 3, 1957 to the late Lottie Woodfork in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Cheryl spent most of her time in Opelousas, Louisiana with her great-grandparents, Willie and Lottie Woodfork and her aunt, Ethel Woodfork Huntley. Her profession was social work and her passion was helping children and families. She touched the lives of many and established lifelong friends. She helped to rear her cousins, Sandra, Johanna, Corey, Zaria and her buddy, Jayden. She also looked forward to spending time with her niece, Keshone and her cousin, Dana who she referred to as “her girls”. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her delicious pies and pecan candy. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Cheryl was never alone when she entered the gates of Heaven. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lottie Woodfork, her brother, Joseph Cleve Woodfork, her great grandparents, Lottie and Willie Woodfork, Sr., her grandparents, Lucille and Willie Woodfork, Jr.,and her aunt, Ethel Woodfork Huntley.
She leaves to celebrate her memory, her husband, Earvis Griffin, her daughter, Celina Griffin, her niece, Keshone (Kevin) Waller, her aunt, Ida Woodfork, her uncles, Warren Woodfork and Richard Woodfork (Tina), her cousin, Judge Dana Douglas all of New Orleans, Louisiana and a host of other relatives and friends.
Private funeral services, for immediate family members only, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing will begin at 9:00 AM. Burial is open to the public and will follow in Serenity Memorial Park. Rev. Calvin Moore will officiate the service.
