An Oshkosh pilot of an army fighter plane, Lieut. George Fenn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fenn, 34 Union street, has been reported "missing in action," according to a government telegram received by the family, this morning.
The message said he was missing since Oct. 28 over the New Guinea area. No other details were given.
Lieutenant Fenn enlisted in the army air corps in February. 1942. and was called into service in July of that year. He received his basic training in various army airfields in this country.
He was a classmate at Santa Ana, Calif. of Lieut. Louis Schriber who is mentioned elsewhere in an Associated Press item in this paper as having received credit for destroying three Japanese planes and probably a fourth over Rabaul.
Since July of this year, Lieu tenant Fenn has been in. the southwest Pacific area. He was flying P-39's and P-47's, according to information in his letters to his parents.
A graduate of Oshkosh High school, he also attended Oshkosh State Teachers college and the University of Wisconsin and in summer vacation periods worked for the Oshkosh Pure Ice Company.
The last letter the parents received from him was dated Oct. 22 and the parents mentioned that they had been receiving mail regularly from him prior to that time. Besides the parents, there are two sisters, Marjorie Fenn and Mrs. Leonard Reinke of this city.
